Welcome to The Space Psychologist! We are delighted to have you here, joining us on this interstellar journey where the cosmos meets the mind. We are Noah and Isska, and together, we delve into the fascinating world of space psychology in which we can perfectly blend our passions for the mysteries of the universe and the intricacies of the human psyche.
Our Story
Our idea for this blog was born during a night walk under the twinkling stars of a warm summer evening. As we gazed up at the vastness of the cosmos, we began to wonder: What are the challenges in the day-to-day life of an astronaut on a long-term space exploration mission? This simple yet profound question sparked a shared dream and set us on a unique path.
I have always been fascinated with astrophysics and space travel. While doing my undergraduate studies in physics, my research initially focused on the observation of active galaxies and globular clusters. The quest to understand these phenomena led me to further explore the dynamic processes within the universe. My journey took a new direction as I ventured into experimental astrophysics for my graduate studies. My primary focus shifted to microgravity rocket projects aimed at understanding planet formation and conducting laboratory experiments to study cometary activity. This new direction kindled a keen interest in understanding how not only my research experiments but also humans are physiologically as well as psychologically affected by these extreme conditions.
Isska, my incredible girlfriend, brings a unique and essential perspective to our endeavor. With her background in psychology, she brings the passion and expertise to unravel the complexities of the human mind and behavior. Her fascination with how people think, feel and cope with extreme conditions made her the perfect partner for exploring the psychological dimensions of space travel. While I dream of rocketing into space, Isska explores the mental and emotional challenges faced by those who venture beyond our planet.
Our Mission
The Space Psychologist was born out of our combined passions and expertise. We realized that while there is abundant information about the technical and physical aspects of space travel, the psychological challenges faced by astronauts often remain in the shadows. Our blog aims to illuminate these intriguing topics. We will examine how space exploration impacts the human mind and how astronauts can manage the unique stresses of life in space.
Our goal is to make space psychology both accessible and engaging for a broad audience. Whether you are a fellow space enthusiast, a psychology student or simply someone who loves to explore the human experience, we strive to inspire and inform you. We believe that understanding the mental and emotional aspects of space travel not only enriches our knowledge of space exploration but also provides valuable insights into human resilience, teamwork and adaptation here on Earth.
